The Echizen Chest industry dates back to the late Edo period (1603–1868). These beautiful, dignified chests are built with joinery techniques that hold joints together without nails, and take advantage of other local industries, such as using Echizen Blade techniques for decorative metal fittings, or using Echizen Lacquerware techniques for lacquered finishes.
